Letter from Principal Smith: September 2018

Dear Families,

As we wrap up the second week of school, we are definitely off to a great start! Thank you for supporting your children as they transition back to school. We appreciate your efforts to get your children to school on time and ready to learn.

In the first few days, students walked into the building with their class, which allowed teachers to begin to teach the morning routine and expectations. While students will enter the building on their own from this point forward, it is still important for children to arrive at 8:20 AM. Teachers begin their morning meetings at 8:30 AM and arriving on time allows students to transition into the building, greet friends, and move through the morning routine prior to the beginning of the school day.

Next week teachers will continue to build positive classroom communities; ones in which students feel a sense of belonging, significance, and fun. Parents who joined us at our first Principal’s Coffee last Friday morning learned more about how we create positive classroom communities.

On Thursday, September 27th we will host Curriculum Night from 6:00 – 8:00 PM. This is a parent-only event and we hope all parents and guardians will be able to attend. It is a wonderful way for parents to connect with their child’s teacher early in the school year. Our goal is to provide you with a better understanding of your child’s academic day and the grade level curriculum. The schedule for the evening is as follows:

  • 6:00 – 6:45: Presentations by teachers in Grades 3, 4, & 5
  • 6:50 – 7:10: Principal presentation
  • 7:15 – 8:00: Presentations by teachers in Grades K, 1, & 2

As always, if I can be of assistance to you this year, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Sincerely,
Kathleen M. Smith
Principal
