COMING SOON! November 2 – CAS Performance Series Presents Crocodile River Music Underwood’s Creative Arts & Sciences (CAS) committee is excited to welcome Crocodile River Music on November 2 for two performances of Dakar-Bamako Express. We are pleased to share that this year’s Performance Series is open to parents and caregivers. Performances will be at 8:30am for grades K-2 and at 9:30am for grades 3-5 in the Underwood Gymnasium. Underwood 5th Annual Fun Run 10/27
You can show your support for Underwood by registering your student for the Fun Run using the link below. All students will participate and receive a t-shirt, but the class with the highest participation will receive an extra 10 minutes of recess! In addition, you can sign up to volunteer to help the kids make it safely around their running route. The volunteer sign up is here! Parents and caregivers are also welcome to come enjoy the weather and cheer the kids! SATURDAY JUNE 11, 2022 9:00 AM – 12:30 PM OAK HILL MIDDLE SCHOOL – 130 WHEELER RD This clinic is geared towards children ages 5-11 for first and second doses and boosters with appropriate documentation. All minors must have a parent or legally authorized representative complete the consent form. We will also have them printed and available on site. Newton Parks, Recreation & Culture Department is excited to share that NewtonSERVES 2022 will be on May 1st. This year we are looking to focus volunteer efforts on cleaning and improving our parks, school grounds, open space areas, and conservation lands. These areas have been so important these past few years and really could use some community TLC! Freedom to Read: Addressing the Banned Books Campaign
Please join us via Zoom on Wednesday, March 30 at 7pm for a Panel Discussion co-hosted by the Newton North and Newton South FORJ chapters entitled Freedom to Read: Addressing the Banned Books Campaign. In light of current legislative efforts to ban books (and other legislative efforts to limit teachers’ abilities to teach concepts of anti-racism, inclusion, and social justice) we think it’s important to have an open discussion around what we want our students to learn. We are delighted to have on our panel Lorena Germán, an educator focused on antiracist and anti-bias work in education, and the founder of the groups #DisruptTexts and Multicultural Classroom. She is the author of The Anti Racist Teacher: Reading instruction workbook, and Textured Teaching: A framework for culturally sustaining practices.
