Letter From the PTO Presidents
Dear Underwood Families,
We are in the home stretch of the school year and with vaccine rates in Newton soaring and spring weather in full swing, we are excited to have a whole slate of outdoor events planned to celebrate the end of this wild school year. There is lots to tell you about, so we will get right to it!
Naco Taco/Ice Cream Truck Night – May 18th
Join us for Taco Tuesday! The Naco Taco Food Truck will be at Underwood from 3:45-7pm on Tuesday, May 18th. Order dinner, have a picnic in the park, and enjoy a safe evening outside with the Underwood community! Dinner must be pre-ordered – order early to guarantee your preferred pick-up time! We will also have an ice cream truck available for dessert (no pre-order necessary for ice cream). 15% of all Naco Taco orders will benefit the Underwood PTO and orders must be placed by 5/16 at 12:45pm. This is a community event so don’t forget to share with all your Newton Corner neighbors!
5th Grade Kickball Fundraiser – May 21st
This year we will be replacing our Annual 5th Grade Basketball Game with a Kickball Game between the 5th Graders and the Teachers of Underwood. The Kickball Fundraiser will be held at the Underwood Field on Friday, May 21st at 3pm. Students and families from all grades are welcome. Tickets are $5 per person and all proceeds benefit the 5th Grade Moving On Ceremony and events. Order your tickets here by Monday, May 17th!
Tickets can be picked up on the Black Top on Tuesday, May 18th and Wednesday, May 19th immediately after school. Snacks and refreshments will be sold during the game and can be paid through Venmo or Cash.
We are “Back”yard Concert! – June 4th
We have all been sorely missing in-person events and opportunities to mingle with other parents, so we are excited to announce our first in-person adult social event of the year! Join us for a We are “Back”yard Concert featuring award-winning singer/songwriter (and parent of Underwood 3rd grader, Tallulah) Will Dailey. Will’s latest album has over 11 million spins on Spotify, top 20 on Billboard Heat Seeker chart and won Album of the Year in the Boston Music Awards, New England Music Awards and Improper Bostonian Magazine. He is a three-time winner of the Boston Music Award for Best Singer/Songwriter and also won Artist of the Year in 2014 and best male vocalist in 2015 and 2016. Learn more about Will and listen to his music HERE.
The concert will be hosted by the Goldworms and Luethys from 7-9pm on Friday, June 4th with a suggestion donation to the PTO of $20 per person. We are looking forward to this adult night out and have arranged a Kids Night Out with WSYMCA as a childcare option – registration details here!
Please register as space is limited due to COVID gathering limits! Visit the registration page for more info.
Spring Fling – June 11th
With our full scale Underwood Spring Carnival on hold for a second year, we will be holding a smaller Spring Fling outdoors at Underwood on June 11th from 5-8pm. More details to come, but mark your calendars for this fun family night out!
