What should be included in the display? How much space do I have for my display?

Do I need to cook if I decide to bring a dish?

  • You can either choose to cook or purchase a dish to bring
  • Please plan to have all foods prepared in advance, there won’t be capacity to prepare foods while in the Underwood gym.

What do I include with my display/dish?

  • Culture/religion being represented and a short description of what makes the item(s) important or significant
  • If you choose to cook, please consider including a recipe for families that might want to try cooking. Please note any specialty ingredients and where to get them.
    • Please check-in with Anyenda if your dish contains any of the common allergens.
  • If you choose to purchase a dish, please share the name of the establishment where you purchased the dish for those families that wish to also buy a dish at a later date.

Will I have access to an electrical outlet?

  • Approval for access to electrical outlets will be on a case by case basis. Please email anyenda@gmail.com. Please note electrical outlets are limited and not guaranteed.

How does we come up with an idea for a display or dish? Think about what is culturally significant to you and your family. Also consider how easy it is to share/display the custom. It is also recommended that you consider partnering with another family if there are shared customs. Also, think about what would be most fun for your family to share with others

What are some examples of displays? Some families have talked about highlighting:

  • Sports that are significant in their culture
  • Religious customs
  • Holidays
  • Important animals & symbols
  • Flags and their significance
  • Games that you can teach to others (please avoid games that involve running around the gym)

What makes a good dish?

  • Deserts
  • Breads
  • Finger foods or samples
  • Fruit & vegetable dishes
  • Foods that can remain stable without long periods of refrigeration or heating

Day of Logistics:

Can my student bring their display/dish with them to school in the morning? This is not recommended, but if this is the only option for your student.
